The Meeting of the Two Parties

[ الْتِقَاءُ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: ثُمَّ تَزَاحَفَ النَّاسُ وَدَنَا بَعْضُهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، وَقَدْ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَصْحَابَهُ أَنْ لَا يَحْمِلُوا حَتَّى يَأْمُرَهُمْ، وَقَالَ: إنْ اكْتَنَفَكُمْ الْقَوْمُ فَانْضَحُوهُمْ عَنْكُمْ بِالنَّبْلِ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْعَرِيشِ، مَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ. فَكَانَتْ وَقْعَةُ بَدْرٍ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ صَبِيحَةَ سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ. قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: كَمَا حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ

Translation

✧ [The meeting of the two parties] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then the people advanced and drew near to one another, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had ordered his companions not to attack until he commanded them. He said: “If the enemy surrounds you, drive them off with arrows.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the arbor, with Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq with him. The Battle of Badr took place on Friday morning, the seventeenth of Ramadan. Ibn Isḥāq said: as Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn narrated to me.
