Translation
✧ [Poem of Ibn al-Ruqayyāt on the incident of the elephant] Ibn Hishām said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Qays al-Ruqayyāt, one of the Banū ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy b. Ghālib, said, mentioning Abrahah—he is al-Ashram—and the elephant: Al-Ashram, who came with the elephant, plotted against it, so he turned back, he and his army, routed. And the birds poured down upon them with stones of baked clay, until it was as if he were routed. That is one whom any of the people attacks: he returns as a remnant of armies, dispraised. These lines are part of a qasīdah of his.
