Translation
✧ [The poetry of Abū al-Ṣalt concerning the incident of the Elephant] Ibn Isḥāq said: Abū al-Ṣalt b. Abī Rabīʿah al-Thaqafī said concerning the affair of the Elephant, mentioning the Ḥanīfiyyah, the religion of Abraham ﷺ. Ibn Hishām said: It is narrated on the authority of Umayyah b. Abī al-Ṣalt b. Abī Rabīʿah al-Thaqafī: Indeed, the signs of our Lord are piercing; none disputes them but the ingrate. Night and day were created; each has its reckoning made clear and decreed. Then a merciful Lord discloses the day with a sun whose rays are spread out. The elephant was restrained at al-Mughammis until it remained hobbling as if hamstrung, Clamped by the ring of its neck, as if it had been rolled down from a rock at Kabkab. Around it were heroes of the kings of Kindah, fierce lions in battle, They abandoned it, then all scattered away, each one with the bone of his shank broken. Every religion on the Day of Resurrection with God, except the religion of the Ḥanīfiyyah, is perishing.
