What was revealed concerning Mālik b. al-Ṣayf's denial of the covenant given to them about the Prophet
[ مَا نَزَلَ فِي نُكْرَانِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الصَّيْفِ الْعَهْدَ إلَيْهِمْ بِالنَّبِيِّ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَقَالَ مَالِكُ بْنُ الصَّيْفِ، حَيْنَ بُعِثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَذَكَرَ لَهُمْ مَا أُخِذَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَهُ مِنْ الْمِيثَاقِ، وَمَا عَهِدَ اللَّهُ إلَيْهِمْ فِيهِ: وَاَللَّهِ مَا عُهِدَ إلَيْنَا فِي مُحَمَّدٍ عَهْدٌ، وَمَا أُخِذَ لَهُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ مِيثَاقٍ. فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ: أَوَكُلَّمَا عَاهَدُوا عَهْدًا نَبَذَهُ فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Translation
✧ [What was revealed concerning Mālik b. al-Ṣayf's denial of the covenant to them concerning the Prophet] Ibn Isḥāq said: Mālik b. al-Ṣayf said when the Messenger of God ﷺ was sent, and he mentioned to them what had been taken from them for him of the covenant, and what God had pledged to them regarding him: By God, no covenant was pledged to us concerning Muḥammad, and no covenant was taken from us for him. So God revealed concerning him: Is it not that whenever they made a covenant, a party of them cast it aside? Nay, most of them do not believe.
