Translation
✧ [The emigration of their women] Among their women were: Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh, Umm Ḥabīb bt. Jaḥsh, Judhāmah bt. Jandal, Umm Qays bt. Muḥṣan, Umm Ḥabīb bt. Thumāmah, Āminah bt. Ruqaysh, Sakhbarah bt. Tamīm, and Ḥamnah bt. Jaḥsh. [The poem of Abū Aḥmad b. Jaḥsh concerning the emigration of the Banū Asad] Abū Aḥmad b. Jaḥsh b. Riʾāb said, mentioning the emigration of the Banū Asad b. Khuzaymah from his people to God the Exalted and to His Messenger ﷺ, and their complete departure in that when they were called to emigration: Even if Umm Aḥmad swore between al-Ṣafā and its Marwah by God, her oath would be fulfilled; We are the ones who were there, then we did not cease to be in Makkah until its fat became lean. Ghanm b. Dūdān pitched tents there and built, but Ghanm did not set out early and its household did not become light; To God they go early between pairs and singles, and the religion of God's Messenger with truth is their religion. Abū Aḥmad b. Jaḥsh also said: When Umm Aḥmad saw me setting out early under the protection of One whom I fear in the unseen and am wary of, She said: If you must do so, then head with us to the lands, and let Yathrib be distant. I said to her: Nay, Yathrib today is our destination, and whatever the Merciful wills, the servant undertakes; To God I turn my face and to the Messenger, and whoever turns his face to God one day is not disappointed. How many a sincere bosom friend we have left behind, and a sincere woman weeping with tears and lamenting, Who thinks that our departure from our land is a loss, while we think that we seek desirable things. I called the Banū Ghanm to preserve their blood, and to the truth when a place of resort appeared to the people; They answered with praise to God when a caller called them to the truth, and success, and they departed completely. We and companions of ours who parted from guidance aided against us with weapons and raised a clamor, Like two parties: one of them granted success, guided to the truth, and a party tormented; They tyrannized and wished a lie, and Iblīs made them slip from the truth, so they failed and were disappointed. We submitted to the word of the Prophet Muḥammad, so the guardians of the truth among us were good and were made good. We claim kinship through wombs close to them, but there is no closeness through wombs when we are not brought near. Which sister's son after us will feel safe from you, and which in-law after my in-law will be watched over? You will learn one day which of us, when you separate, and the affair of the people is distinguished, is more correct for the truth. Ibn Hishām said: His words "and let Yathrib be distant" and his words "when we are not brought near" are from someone other than Ibn Isḥāq. Ibn Hishām said: By his words "idh" he means "idhā," like the saying of God, Mighty and Majestic: "idh al-ẓālimūna mawqūfūna ʿinda rabbihim" (when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord). Abū al-Najm al-ʿIjlī said: Then God rewarded him on our behalf when He rewarded — gardens of ʿAdn in the high places and the heights.
