Sirat Ibn Hisham 406
Translation
✧ [What al-ʿĀṣ used to harm the Messenger of God ﷺ with, and what was revealed concerning him] Ibn Isḥāq said: Al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil al-Sahmī—Khabbāb b. al-Aratt, the Companion of the Messenger of God ﷺ, was a blacksmith in Makkah who made swords, and he had sold al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil swords that he had made for him until he was owed money by him. He came to him to demand payment, and he said to him, "O Khabbāb, does not Muḥammad, this companion of yours whose religion you follow, claim that in Paradise there is whatever its people desire of gold, silver, garments, or servants?" Khabbāb said, "Yes." He said, "Then grant me respite until the Day of Resurrection, O Khabbāb, so that I may return to that abode and pay you your due there. For by God, you and your companion, O Khabbāb, will not be more favored with God than I, nor greater in share in that." So God Almighty revealed concerning him: "Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our signs and said, 'I will surely be given wealth and children'? Has he looked into the unseen?" up to His saying, Almighty: "And We will inherit from him what he says, and he will come to Us alone."
