The account of Daws Dhū Thaʿlabān and the beginning of Abyssinian rule
Translation
✧ The affair of Daws Dhū Thaʿlabān, and the beginning of the Abyssinian kingdom [and the mention of Aryāṭ, the one who took over Yemen] [The flight of Daws and his seeking aid from Caesar] Ibn Isḥāq said: A man from Sabaʾ, called Daws Dhū Thaʿlabān, escaped from them on a horse of his. He took the sandy tract and eluded them. He went on his way until he came to Caesar, king of the Romans, and sought his aid against Dhū Nuwās and his troops, and told him what had befallen them. He said to him: 'Your land is far from us, but I will write for you to the king of Abyssinia, for he follows this religion and is closer to your land.' So he wrote to him, commanding him to aid him and seek revenge for him.
