Translation
✧ [The mothers of Āminah bt. Wahb] She was the daughter of Barrah bt. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. ʿUthmān b. ʿAbd al-Dār b. Quṣayy b. Kilāb b. Murrah b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy b. Ghālib b. Fihr. Barrah was the daughter of Umm Ḥabīb bt. Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Quṣayy b. Kilāb b. Murrah b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy b. Ghālib b. Fihr. Umm Ḥabīb was the daughter of Barrah bt. ʿAwf b. ʿUbayd b. ʿUwayj b. ʿAdī b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy b. Ghālib b. Fihr. [What occurred between ʿAbd Allāh and the woman who offered herself to him after his consummation with Āminah] They assert that he entered upon her when he was married to her on the spot, and he lay with her, and she became pregnant with the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then he left her and came to the woman who had made him the offer she had made, and said to her, 'What is wrong with you that you do not offer me today what you offered me yesterday?' She said to him, 'The light that was with you yesterday has left you, so I have no need of you today.' She had heard from her brother Waraqah b. Nawfal—who had become a Christian and followed the scriptures—that there would be a prophet among this community. Ibn Isḥāq said: My father Isḥāq b. Yasār narrated to me that he was told: ʿAbd Allāh entered upon a wife of his besides Āminah bt. Wahb, and he had been working in clay of his, and on him were traces of clay. He called her to himself, but she delayed because of the traces of clay she saw on him. So he left her, performed ablution, and washed off what was on him of that clay. Then he went out intending to go to Āminah, and he passed by that wife, and she called him to herself, but he refused her and went to Āminah, entered upon her, and lay with her, and she became pregnant with Muḥammad ﷺ. Then he passed by that wife of his and said to her, 'Will you?' She said, 'No. You passed by me with a white blaze between your eyes, and I called you, but you refused me and entered upon Āminah, and it went with her.' Ibn Isḥāq said: They assert that that wife of his used to relate that he passed by her with a blaze between his eyes like the blaze of a horse. She said, 'I called him hoping that it might be with me, but he refused me and entered upon Āminah and lay with her, and she became pregnant with the Messenger of God ﷺ.' So the Messenger of God ﷺ was the noblest of his people in lineage and the greatest of them in honour from his father and his mother, ﷺ.
