Translation
✧ [The deliverance of ʿAbd Allāh from being sacrificed] So they went out until they arrived at Makkah. When they had resolved upon that matter, ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they brought forward ʿAbd Allāh and ten camels, while ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib was standing at Hubal supplicating God, Mighty and Majestic. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh; so they added ten camels, and the camels became twenty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God, Mighty and Majestic. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh; so they added ten camels, and the camels became thirty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh, so they added ten camels, and the camels became forty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh, so they added ten camels, and the camels became fifty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh; so they added ten camels, and the camels became sixty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh, so they added ten camels, and the camels became seventy. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh; so they added ten camels, and the camels became eighty. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh, so they added ten camels, and the camels became ninety. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against ʿAbd Allāh, so they added ten camels, and the camels became one hundred. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God. Then they cast the arrow and the lot came out against the camels. Quraysh and those present said: "The pleasure of your Lord has been reached, O ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib." They alleged that ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib said: "No, by God, not until I cast for it three times." So they cast for ʿAbd Allāh and for the camels, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood supplicating God, and the lot came out against the camels. Then they repeated a second time, while ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib was standing supplicating God, and they cast, and the lot came out against the camels. Then they repeated a third time, while ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib was standing supplicating God, and they cast, and the lot came out against the camels. So they were slaughtered, then they were left such that no human was turned away from them nor prevented. Ibn Hishām said: It is said: "no human and no wild beast." Ibn Hishām said: Among the recesses of this narrative there is a rajaz poem that is not established as authentic for us from any of the learned in poetry.
