Account of the wells of the clans of Quraysh in Makkah

Translation

✧ [Sajlah and who dug it] Ibn Isḥāq said: And he dug Sajlah, which is the well of al-Muṭʿim b. ʿAdī b. Nawfal b. ʿAbd Manāf, from which they draw water today. The Banū Nawfal claim that al-Muṭʿim purchased it from Asad b. Hāshim, while the Banū Hāshim claim that he gave it to him as a gift when Zamzam appeared, and they became self-sufficient with it over those wells. [Al-Ḥafr and who dug it] And Umayyah b. ʿAbd Shams dug al-Ḥafr for himself.
