Mothers of the Believers

ذِكْرُ أَزْوَاجِهِ ﷺ [ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ] [ أَسْمَاؤُهُنَّ ] قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَكُنَّ تِسْعًا: عَائِشَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَحَفْصَةُ بِنْتُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، وَأُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، وَأُمُّ سَلَمَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، وَسَوْدَةُ بِنْتُ زَمَعَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، وَزَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشِ بْنِ رِئَابٍ وَمَيْمُونَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَزْنٍ، وَجُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ، وَصَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيِّ بْنِ أَخْطَبَ فِيمَا حَدَّثَنِي غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ.

Translation

✧ Mention of his ﷺ wives [the Mothers of the Believers] [their names]. Ibn Hishām said: They were nine: ʿĀʾishah bt. Abī Bakr, Ḥafṣah bt. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, Umm Ḥabībah bt. Abī Sufyān b. Ḥarb, Umm Salamah bt. Abī Umayyah b. al-Mughīrah, Sawdah bt. Zamʿah b. Qays, Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh b. Riʾāb, Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith b. Ḥazn, Juwayriyah bt. al-Ḥārith b. Abī Ḍirār, and Ṣafiyyah bt. Ḥuyayy b. Akhṭab, according to what was narrated to me by more than one of the people of knowledge.
