The Marriage of Hāshim
[ زَوَاجُ هَاشِمٍ ] وَكَانَ هَاشِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَتَزَوَّجَ سَلْمَى بِنْتَ عَمْرٍو أَحَدِ بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ أُحَيْحَةَ بْنِ الْجُلَاحِ بْنِ الْحَرِيشِ قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ وَيُقَالُ: الْحَرِيسُ - ابْنُ جَحْجَبِي بْنِ كُلْفَةَ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْأَوْسِ. فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ عَمْرَو بْنَ أُحَيْحَةَ، وَكَانَتْ لَا تَنْكِحُ الرِّجَالَ لِشَرَفِهَا فِي قَوْمِهَا حَتَّى يَشْتَرِطُوا لَهَا أَنَّ أَمْرَهَا بِيَدِهَا، إذَا كَرِهَتْ رَجُلًا فَارَقَتْهُ
Translation
✧ [The Marriage of Hāshim] Hāshim b. ʿAbd Manāf came to Madinah and married Salmā bt. ʿAmr, one of the Banū ʿAdī b. al-Najjār. She had previously been married to Uḥayḥah b. al-Julāḥ b. al-Ḥarīsh — Ibn Hishām said: it is also said al-Ḥarīs — b. Jaḥjabī b. Kulfah b. ʿAwf b. ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. Mālik b. al-Aws. She bore him ʿAmr b. Uḥayḥah. She would not marry men, because of her nobility among her people, until they stipulated for her that her affair would be in her own hand, so that if she disliked a man she would part from him.
