[ مَا نَزَلَ فِي أَهْلِ الْكِتَابَيْنِ ] ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابَيْنِ بِمَا فِيهِمْ مِنْ الشَّرِّ وَالْفِرْيَةِ عَلَيْهِ، حَتَّى انْتَهَى إلَى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْأَحْبَارِ وَالرُّهْبَانِ لَيَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنْفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
Translation
✧ [What was revealed concerning the people of the two scriptures] Then He mentioned the people of the two scriptures with the evil and falsehood that was in them, until He reached His saying, exalted is He: 'Indeed, many of the rabbis and monks consume people's wealth unjustly and turn them away from the path of God. And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of God—give them tidings of a painful punishment' (Q 9:34).
