The martyrs of the Muslims on the day of al-Ta'if
[ شُهَدَاءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَهَذِهِ تَسْمِيَةُ مَنْ اُسْتُشْهِدَ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ. [ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ] مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ: سَعِيدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ بْنِ الْعَاصِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، وَعُرْفُطَةُ بْنُ جَنَّابٍ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ، مِنْ الْأُسْدِ بْنِ الْغَوْثِ. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَيُقَالُ: ابْنُ حُبَابٍ. قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَمِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ، رُمِيَ بِسَهْمِ، فَمَاتَ مِنْهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ. وَمِنْ بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، مِنْ رَمْيَةٍ رُمِيَهَا يَوْمَئِذٍ. وَمِنْ بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ. وَمِنْ بَنِي سَهْمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو: السَّائِبُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ، وَأَخُوهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ. وَمِنْ بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ لَيْثٍ: جُلَيْحَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ. [ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ] وَاسْتُشْهِدَ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ: مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ: ثَابِتُ بْنُ الْجَذَعِ. وَمِنْ بَنِي مَازِنِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ: الْحَارِثُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَعْصَعَةَ. وَمِنْ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ: الْمُنْذِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ. وَمِنْ الْأَوْسِ: رُقَيْمُ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ لَوْذَانَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ. فَجَمِيعُ مَنْ اُسْتُشْهِدَ بِالطَّائِفِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا، سَبْعَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَأَرْبَعَةٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ
Translation
✧ [The Muslim martyrs on the day of al-Taʾif] Ibn Isḥāq said: This is the naming of those who were martyred from the Muslims with the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of al-Taʾif. [From Quraysh] From Quraysh, then from Banū Umayyah b. ʿAbd Shams: Saʿīd b. Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ b. Umayyah, and ʿUrfuṭah b. Jannāb, an ally of theirs, from al-Asd b. al-Ghawth. Ibn Hishām said: And it is said: Ibn Ḥubāb. Ibn Isḥāq said: And from Banū Taym b. Murrah: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, he was shot with an arrow, and he died of it in Madinah after the death of the Messenger of God ﷺ. And from Banū Makhzūm: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Umayyah b. al-Mughīrah, from a shot he was shot with on that day. And from Banū ʿAdiyy b. Kaʿb: ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah, an ally of theirs. And from Banū Sahm b. ʿAmr: al-Sāʾib b. al-Ḥārith b. Qays b. ʿAdiyy, and his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥārith. And from Banū Saʿd b. Layth: Julayḥah b. ʿAbd Allāh. [From the Anṣār] And those who were martyred from the Anṣār: from Banū Salimah: Thābit b. al-Jadhaʿ. And from Banū Māzin b. al-Najjār: al-Ḥārith b. Sahl b. Abī Ṣaʿṣaʿah. And from Banū Sāʿidah: al-Mundhir b. ʿAbd Allāh. And from al-Aws: Ruqaym b. Thābit b. Thaʿlabah b. Zayd b. Lawdhān b. Muʿāwiyah. Thus the total of those who were martyred at al-Taʾif from the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ was twelve men: seven from Quraysh, four from the Anṣār, and one man from Banū Layth.
