Ṣūfah and the Stoning of the Jamrahs
Translation
✧ [Ṣūfah and the stoning of the jamarāt] Ṣūfah used to send the people forth from ʿArafah, and to give them permission to depart when they left Minā. When the day of departure came, they would come for the stoning of the jamarāt, and a man from Ṣūfah would do the stoning for the people; they would not stone until he stoned. Those with urgent needs who were in a hurry would come to him and say, 'Stand and stone, so that we may stone with you.' He would say, 'No, by Allah, not until the sun declines.' Then those with urgent needs who wanted to hurry would pelt him with stones, trying to make him hasten, and they would say to him, 'Woe to you, stand and stone.' But he would refuse. When the sun declined, he stood and stoned, and the people stoned with him.
