The killing of Abu Amir al-Ash'ari
[ مَقْتَلُ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي آثَارِ مَنْ تَوَجَّهَ قِبَلَ أَوْطَاسٍ أَبَا عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيَّ، فَأَدْرَكَ مِنْ النَّاسِ بَعْضَ مَنْ انْهَزَمَ، فَنَاوَشُوهُ الْقِتَالَ فَرُمِيَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ بِسَهْمِ فَقُتِلَ، فَأَخَذَ الرَّايَةَ أَبُو مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيُّ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمِّهِ فَقَاتَلَهُمْ، فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ وَهَزَمَهُمْ. فَيَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ دُرَيْدٍ هُوَ الَّذِي رَمَى أَبَا عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيَّ بِسَهْمِ، فَأَصَابَ رُكْبَتَهُ، فَقَتَلَهُ، فَقَالَ: إنْ تَسْأَلُوا عَنِّي فَإِنِّي سَلَمَهْ ابْنُ سَمَادِيرَ لِمَنْ تَوَسَّمَهْ أضْرِبُ بِالسَّيْفِ رُءُوسَ الْمُسْلِمَهْ [ دُعَاءُ الرَّسُولِ لِبَنِي رِئَابٍ ] وَسَمَادِيرُ: أُمُّهُ. وَاسْتَحَرَّ الْقَتْلُ مِنْ بَنِي نَصْرٍ فِي بَنِي رِئَابٍ، فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ ابْنُ الْعَوْرَاءِ، وَهُوَ أَحَدُ بَنِي وَهْبِ بْنِ رِئَابٍ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، هَلَكَتْ بَنُو رِئَابٍ فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اُجْبُرْ مُصِيبَتَهُمْ
Translation
✧ [The killing of Abu ʿAmir al-Ashʿari] Ibn Ishaq said: The Messenger of God ﷺ sent Abu ʿAmir al-Ashʿari in pursuit of those who had headed toward Awṭās. He caught up with some of the people who had fled, and they engaged him in skirmishing. Abu ʿAmir was shot with an arrow and killed. Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, his paternal cousin, took up the banner and fought them, and God granted victory at his hands and routed them. They claim that Salamah b. Durayd was the one who shot Abu ʿAmir al-Ashʿari with an arrow; it struck his knee and killed him. He said: If you ask about me, I am Salamah, son of Samādīr, for those who mark me; I strike with the sword the heads of the Muslims. [The Messenger's prayer for Banu Riʾab] Samādīr was his mother. The slaughter among Banu Naṣr against Banu Riʾab became intense. They claim that ʿAbd Allah b. Qays, who was called Ibn al-ʿAwrāʾ and was one of Banu Wahb b. Riʾab, said: "O Messenger of God, Banu Riʾab have perished." They claim that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "O God, repair their affliction."
