The defeat of the polytheists

Translation

✧ [The rout of the polytheists on the day of Ḥunayn] Ibn Isḥāq said: When God routed the polytheists of Ḥunayn and delivered them into the power of His Messenger ﷺ, a Muslim woman said: "The cavalry of God has overcome the cavalry of al-Lāt, and God is more deserving of steadfastness." Ibn Hishām said: One of the scholars of poetry recitation recited to me: "The cavalry of God has overcome the cavalry of al-Lāt, and His cavalry is more deserving of steadfastness." Ibn Isḥāq said: When Hawāzin were put to flight, the slaughter among Thaqīf in Banū Mālik was intense, and seventy men of them were killed under their banner, among them ʿUthmān b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Rabīʿa b. al-Ḥārith b. Ḥabīb. Their banner had been with Dhū al-Khimār, and when he was killed, ʿUthmān b. ʿAbd Allāh took it and fought with it until he was killed. Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿĀmir b. Wahb b. al-Aswad related to me, saying: When the Messenger of God ﷺ learned of his killing, he said: "May God distance him! For he used to hate Quraysh."
