Translation

✧ Khālid b. al-Walīd's expedition to demolish al-ʿUzzā [Khālid and his demolishing of al-ʿUzzā] Then the Messenger of God ﷺ sent Khālid b. al-Walīd to al-ʿUzzā. It was at Nakhla; it was a house venerated by this tribe of Quraysh, Kināna, and all of Muḍar. Its keepers and guardians were the Banū Shaybān of the Banū Sulaym, allies of the Banū Hāshim. When its Sulamī keeper heard of Khālid's expedition to it, he hung his sword upon it and climbed the mountain in which it was, saying: "O ʿUzzā, deliver a blow with no wound upon Khālid! Cast aside the veil and gird up your skirts! O ʿUzzā, if you do not kill the man Khālid, then be laden with the sin of a swift recompense or become a Christian!" When Khālid reached it, he demolished it, then returned to the Messenger of God ﷺ. Ibn Isḥāq said: Ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī related to me, from ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUtba b. Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ stayed after its conquest fifteen nights, shortening the prayer. Ibn Isḥāq said: The conquest of Makkah occurred on the tenth night remaining of the month of Ramaḍān in the year eight.
