The Messenger's grief for Jaʿfar and his instructions regarding his family

Translation

✧ [Ḥassān's poetry in lamenting Jaʿfar b. Abī Ṭālib] Ḥassān b. Thābit said, weeping for Jaʿfar b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ: I wept, and the loss of Jaʿfar was grievous, the beloved of the Prophet to all creation. I was anxious and said when his death was announced to me: Who will take up the sword in battle by the eagle standard and its shade, with the white blades when they are drawn from their scabbards, striking, with spears raining down and their thrusts, after the blessed Jaʿfar, son of Fāṭimah, the best of all creation and its most glorious, the heaviest loss, the noblest in lineage among them all, the mightiest in seeking redress for wrongs and most steadfast, for the truth when it befalls, without false pretence, the most generous of hand, the least obscene in speech, the most abundant in merit when asked for bounty, the most open-handed in giving, the most devoted to kindness, none like him among the living of all creation except Muḥammad.
