Translation
✧ [Kaʿb's poetry on the day of Khaybar] Kaʿb b. Mālik said concerning the day of Khaybar, as Ibn Hishām mentioned on the authority of Abū Zayd al-Anṣārī: We came to Khaybar and its watering places, With every youth, bare of the finger-joints, a defender, Generous at the goals, not weak of strength, Bold against the enemies in every witnessed scene, Great of ash under the cooking-pot in every winter, Striking with the blade of the Mashrafī, the Indian-forged, He sees being killed as praise if he attains martyrdom From God, hoping for it, and triumph through Aḥmad, He drives off and protects the sanctities of Muḥammad, And defends him with tongue and with hand, And supports him in every matter that distresses him, Giving his own soul for the soul of Muḥammad, He confirms the tidings of the unseen, sincere, Desiring thereby triumph and glory on the morrow.
