The Messenger's prohibition on the day of Khaybar of certain things

Translation

✧ [The affair of Abū al-Yusr Kaʿb b. ʿAmr] Ibn Isḥāq said: Buraydah b. Sufyān al-Aslamī narrated to me, from one of the men of Banū Salimah, from Abū al-Yusr Kaʿb b. ʿAmr, who said: By God, we were with the Messenger of God ﷺ at Khaybar one evening when a flock of sheep belonging to a Jewish man came toward their fortress while we were besieging them. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Which man will feed us from these sheep?” Abū al-Yusr said: I said, “I will, O Messenger of God.” He said: “Then do it.” He said: I went out running swiftly like a male ostrich. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw me heading away, he said: “O God, let us enjoy him.” He said: I caught up with the sheep when their first ones had already entered the fortress, and I took two sheep from among their last ones and clutched them under my arms. Then I came running back with them as if I was carrying nothing, until I threw them down before the Messenger of God ﷺ. They slaughtered them and ate them. Abū al-Yusr was among the last of the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ to perish. Whenever he related this account, he would weep, then say: “They were made to enjoy me, by my life, until I was among the last of them to perish.”
