The Messenger's practice with his wives during his journeys
Translation
✧ [The Messenger's conduct with his wives on his journey] Muḥammad b. Isḥāq said: Yaḥyā b. ʿAbbād b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Zubayr narrated to me, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah; and ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr, from ʿAmrah bt. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿĀʾishah, from herself, when the people of the slander said about her what they said. Each one entered into her account from all of these, some of them relating what his companion did not relate, and each was trustworthy regarding her. All of them related from her what they heard. She said: The Messenger of God ﷺ, when he intended a journey, cast lots among his wives. Whichever of them her arrow came out, he took her with him. When it was the expedition of Banū al-Muṣṭaliq, he cast lots among his wives, as he used to do, and my arrow came out over theirs with him. So the Messenger of God ﷺ took me out.
