The killing of Banū Qurayẓa
Translation
✧ The killing of Ibn Akhṭab and the poetry of Ibn Jawwāl concerning it on the day of Qurayẓah And Ḥuyayy b. Akhṭab, the enemy of God, was brought, wearing a fāqqāḥiyyah robe of his — Ibn Hishām said: fāqqāḥiyyah is a kind of figured cloth — which he had torn from every side to the extent of a finger-joint (a finger-joint) so that it would not be stripped from him, his hands bound to his neck with a rope. When he looked at the Messenger of God ﷺ, he said: “By God, I do not blame myself for enmity toward you, but whoever God forsakes is forsaken.” Then he turned to the people and said: “O people, there is no harm in God’s command: a decree, a destiny, and a battle which God wrote upon the Children of Israel.” Then he sat down and his neck was struck. Jabal b. Jawwāl al-Thaʿlabī said: “By your life, Ibn Akhṭab did not blame himself, but whoever God forsakes is forsaken. He strove until he gave his soul its full excuse, and he roamed seeking glory in every place of roaming.”
