Mention of what God revealed in the Qurʾān concerning Uḥud

Translation

✧ [Encouragement to jihād] Then He said to His Prophet ﷺ, encouraging the believers to jihād and making light of being killed for them: “And do not reckon those who have been killed in the way of God as dead; rather, they are alive with their Lord, provided for, rejoicing in what God has given them of His bounty, and rejoicing in good tidings for those who have not yet joined them from behind them, that no fear shall be upon them, nor shall they grieve” (Qurʾān 3:169–170). That is, do not reckon those who have been killed in the way of God as dead; rather, I have given them life, and they are with Me, provided for in the comfort of Paradise and its bounty, delighted with what God has given them of His bounty for their jihād on His behalf. “And rejoicing in good tidings for those who have not yet joined them from behind them”: that is, they are gladdened by the joining of those of their brethren who will join them, following the jihād on which they went forth, so that they may share with them in the reward of God that He has given them. God has removed from them fear and sorrow. God, exalted be He, says: “They rejoice in good tidings of a blessing from God and bounty, and that God does not cause the reward of the believers to be lost” (Qurʾān 3:171), because of what they have witnessed of the fulfillment of the promise and the greatness of the reward.
