أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ بِالرَّقَّةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَكِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُجَاهِدٍ الطَّائِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحِلُّ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلَانِ يَشْكُو أَحَدُهُمَا الْعَيْلَةَ وَيَشْكُو الْآخَرُ قَطْعَ السَّبِيلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَمَّا قَطْعُ السَّبِيلِ فَلَا يَأْتِي عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ الْعِيرُ مِنَ الْحِيرَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ بِغَيْرِ خَفِيرٍ وَأَمَّا الْعَيْلَةُ فَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَا تَقُومُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ الرَّجُلُ بِصَدَقَةِ مَالِهِ فَلَا يَجِدُ مَنْ يَقْبَلُهَا مِنْهُ ثُمَّ لَيَقِفَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ حِجَابٌ يَحْجُبُهُ وَلَا تُرْجُمَانٌ يُتَرْجِمُ لَهُ فَيَقُولَنَّ لَهُ أَلَمْ أُوتِكَ مَالًا؟ فَلَيَقُولَنَّ بَلَى فَيَقُولُ أَلَمْ أُرْسِلْ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولًا؟ فَلَيَقُولَنَّ بَلَى ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ ثُمَّ يَنْظُرُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ فَلْيَتَّقِ أَحَدُكُمُ النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ»

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when two men came to him, one complaining of poverty and the other of highway robbery. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “As for highway robbery, it will not be long before caravans travel from al-Hirah to Makkah without a guard. As for poverty, the Hour will not come until a man goes out with his charity and finds no one to accept it from him. Then one of you will surely stand before Allah with no barrier between him and Allah and no interpreter to translate for him. Allah will say to him: ‘Did I not give you wealth?’ He will say: ‘Yes.’ Allah will say: ‘Did I not send you a messenger?’ He will say: ‘Yes.’ Then he will look to his right and see nothing but the Fire; then he will look to his left and see nothing but the Fire. So let each of you guard against the Fire, even with half a date; and if he cannot find that, then with a good word.”
