Sahih Ibn Hibban 7020

Translation

✧ My father ordered a khazira (a meat and bran dish), and it was made. Then he ordered me, and I carried it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I came to him while he was in his house. He said, “What is this, Jabir? Is it meat?” I said, “No, but it is khazira.” So he ordered it to be taken, and it was received. When I returned to my father, he said, “Did you see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “Did he say anything?” I said, “Yes. He said, ‘What is this, Jabir? Is it meat?’” My father said, “Perhaps the Messenger of Allah ﷺ craved meat.” So he went to a domestic animal of his and slaughtered it. Then he ordered it, and it was roasted. Then he ordered me, and I carried it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I reached him while he was in that same gathering. He said, “What is this, Jabir?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I returned to my father and he said, ‘Did you see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Did he say anything?’ I said, ‘Yes. He said, “What is this? Is it meat?”’ My father said, ‘Perhaps the Messenger of Allah ﷺ craved meat.’ So he went to a domestic animal he had and slaughtered it. Then he ordered it, and it was roasted. Then he ordered me, and I carried it to you.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “May Allah reward the Ansar well on our behalf, especially ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Amr b. Haram and Sa‘d b. ‘Ubadah.”
