أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْجَرْجَائِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جُنْدُبًا الْبَجَلِيَّ يَقُولُ

«أَبْطَأَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَدْ وُدِّعَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى} »

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm a freed slave of Thaqīf
  2. Muḥammad b. al-Ṣabbāḥ al-Jarjāʾī
  3. Sufyān
  4. al-Aswad b. Qays
  5. Jundub al-Bajalī

✧ Jibrīl delayed coming to the Prophet ﷺ, and the polytheists said, 'He has been forsaken.' So Allah revealed: {Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor is He displeased}.
