✧ He heard the Prophet ﷺ say in his sermon while mentioning the she-camel and the one who hamstrung her: “{When the most wretched of them was sent forth} (Qur'an 91:12) the one sent forth to her was a man, fierce, mighty, and protected among his people, like Abu Zam'ah.” Then he mentioned women and said, “Why does one of you flog his wife as he flogs a slave, and perhaps he will lie with her at the end of his day?” Then he admonished them about laughing at passing wind and said, “Why does one of you laugh at what he himself does?!”

machine translationHishām narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Zamʿah b. Ṣāliḥ and Abū Uways narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah. Likewise ʿUthmān b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī narrated it from his father, from al-Thawrī, from Hishām, from ʿĀʾishah. All of these are errors (wahm), and the correct version is from Hishām, from his father, from ʿAbdullāh b. Zamʿah, from the Prophet ﷺ.
