✧ We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Khaybar, and we did not gain gold or silver, but only goods, clothes, and baggage. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ headed towards Wadi al-Qura. Rifa'ah b. Zayd had given the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a black slave called Mid'am. We went on until we were at Wadi al-Qura. While Mid'am was unloading the saddle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a stray arrow came and struck him, killing him. The people said, 'Good for him, Paradise!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No, by Him in whose hand is my soul, the cloak that he took on the day of Khaybar from the spoils, which the division had not reached, is burning upon him as fire.' When the people heard that, a man came with a shoe strap or two shoe straps to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A shoe strap of fire or two shoe straps of fire.'
