✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him on the expedition of Dhat al-Salasil. His companions asked him to light a fire, but he forbade them. They spoke to Abu Bakr, who spoke to him about it. He said, "None of them shall light a fire or I will throw him into it." He said, "They met the enemy and defeated them. They wanted to pursue them, but he forbade them. When the army returned, they mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ and complained about him. He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I disliked allowing them to light a fire lest their enemy see how few they were, and I disliked that they pursue them lest reinforcements come to the enemy and they turn back against them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ praised his action. Then he said, 'O Messenger of Allah, who is the most beloved of people to you?' He said, 'Why?' He said, 'So that I may love whom you love.' He said, ''A'ishah.' He said, 'Among men?' He said, 'Abu Bakr.'"
