أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ
أَنْ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَعْتِقَ عَنْ أُمِّهَا قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَنْ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي دَخَلٍ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ فَإِنْ أَنَا شَدَدْتُهُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِي خَشِيتُ أَنْ أَقْتُلَهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ أَشُدَّهُ لَمْ يَثْبُتْ عَلَيْهَا أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوَ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ أَكَانَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْجُجْ عَنْ أَبِيكَ»

✧ A man asked Sulaymān b. Yasār about a woman who wanted to free a slave on behalf of her mother. Sulaymān said: ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās told me that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: O Messenger of Allah, my father entered Islam as an old man. If I tie him onto my riding camel, I fear I may kill him, and if I do not tie him, he will not stay on it. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Consider, if your father owed a debt and you paid it on his behalf, would that suffice him?" He said: Yes. He said: "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father."
