✧ Ibn ʿAbbās used to command us to do the mutʿah, while Ibn al-Zubayr forbade it. I mentioned that to Jābir, so he said: “The ḥadīth revolves around my hand. We performed tamattuʿ with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb came, he said: ‘Allah would make lawful for His Prophet ﷺ whatever He willed whenever He willed, but the Qurʾān has now been revealed in its proper stages, so complete the ḥajj and the ʿumrah for Allah as Allah has commanded you, and refrain from marrying these women for a fixed period. No man will be brought to me who marries a woman for a term except that I will stone him with rocks.’”
