✧ I saw ‘Uthman sitting in the gathering place. He called for water for ablution and performed ablution, then said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in this seat of mine perform ablution like my ablution, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever performs ablution like my ablution will have his past sins forgiven.’” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “And do not be deluded.”

machine translationThis is a mistake. It is only Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from ʿĪsā b. Ṭalḥah, from Ḥumrān, and Abū Wāʾil has no part in this. This error, in my view, comes from al-Walīd.
