✧ The Expiation

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ بَكْرِ بْنِ مُضَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ وَقَعَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَجِدُ رَقَبَةً؟ » قَالَ لَا قَالَ «هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صِيَامَ شَهْرَيْنِ؟ » قَالَ لَا قَالَ «تُطْعِمُ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا؟ » قَالَ لَا أَجِدُ فَأَعْطَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَمْرًا وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَاجَتَهُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ هُوَ

✧ A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that he had fallen upon his wife during Ramadan. He said: "Can you find a slave?" He said: No. He said: "Can you fast two months?" He said: No. He said: "Feed sixty poor people?" He said: I cannot find. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him dates and commanded him to give them in charity. He said: Then he mentioned his need to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he commanded him to take it himself.
