✧ A lesson on mourning and its likeness.

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ

«أَرْبَعٌ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَنْ يَدَعَهَا النَّاسُ النِّيَاحَةُ وَالتَّعَايُرُ أَوِ التَّعَايُرُ فِي الْأَنْسَابِ وَمُطِرْنَا بِنَوْءِ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَالْعَدْوَى جَرِبَ بَعِيرٌ فِي مِئَةِ بَعِيرٍ فَمَنْ أَعْدَى الْأَوْلَ؟ »

✧ Four things are from Jahiliyyah that the people will never abandon: wailing, boasting or defaming one another by lineage, saying, 'We were given rain by such and such a star,' and contagious disease. A camel had mange among a hundred camels; who infected the first one?
