✧ I came to Madinah when a disease had struck it, and people were dying rapidly. I sat with Umar b. al-Khattab, and a funeral procession passed by him and its owner was praised with good, so Umar said, 'It has become incumbent.' Then another was brought and its owner was spoken of with evil, so Umar said, 'It has become incumbent.' Abu al-Aswad said, 'What has become incumbent, O Commander of the Believers?' He said, 'As the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Any Muslim for whom four people testify to good, God will surely admit him to Paradise."' He said, 'We said, "And three?" He said, "And three."' He said, 'Then we said, "And two?" He said, "And two." And we did not ask him about one.'
