أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَجْلَانَ سَمِعَ عِيَاضَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّرْحِ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تُعْجِبُهُ هَذِهِ الْعَرَاجِينُ وَيُمْسِكُهَا فِي يَدِهِ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَفِي يَدِهِ مِنْهَا قَضِيبٌ فَحَكَّهَا بِهِ يُرِيدُ بَزْقَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ وَنَهَى أَنْ يَبْزُقَ الرَّجُلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ أَوْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَقَالَ «لِيَبْزُقْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ الْيُسْرَى فَإِنْ عَجِلَتْ بِهِ بَادِرَةٌ فَلْيَجْعَلْهَا فِي ثَوْبِهِ وَلْيَقُلْ بِهَا هَكَذَا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ liked these date-palm stalks and would hold them in his hand. He entered the mosque with a stick from them in his hand and scraped with it, meaning some spittle in the qiblah of the mosque. He forbade a man from spitting in front of him or to his right and said, “Let him spit to his left or under his left foot. If he is overtaken by haste, let him put it into his garment and do thus with it.”
