✧ 'Umar b. al-Khattab gave a sermon and said: 'I saw in a dream as if a red rooster pecked me once or twice, and I think that only means the approach of my term. If my matter is hastened, then consultation is to those six men with whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was pleased when he died. I know that some people will criticize this matter; I fought them with this hand of mine for Islam. If they do so, then those are the enemies of Allah, the disbelievers, the misguided. I bear witness concerning the governors of the garrison towns, for I sent them only to teach the people their religion and the sunnah of their Prophet ﷺ and to distribute among them the booty. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was never harsh with me about anything, or I never argued with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about anything, like the verse of kalalah, until he struck my chest and said: "The verse of summer that was revealed at the end of Surat al-Nisa' should suffice you: {They ask you for a ruling. Say: Allah gives you a ruling concerning kalalah.}" I shall decide concerning it with a decision that whoever reads will know: it is what excludes the father. O people, you eat of two plants that I consider nothing but foul: onions and garlic. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to order that a man found with their odor be sent out to al-Baqi'. Whoever must eat them should kill their odor by cooking.'
