✧ I heard Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi among ten of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, among them Abu Qatadah. Abu Humayd said, 'I am the most knowledgeable among you concerning the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' They said, 'Why? By Allah, you were not the most frequent of us in following him, nor the earliest of us in his companionship.' He said, 'Yes, I was.' They said, 'Then describe it.' He said, 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer, he said takbir and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, and kept every bone in its position. Then he recited. Then he raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders. Then he bowed and placed his palms on his knees, straight, not lowering his head nor drawing it in. He said, "Allah hears those who praise Him," and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, until every bone returned to its position. Then he went down to the ground and kept his hands away from his sides. Then he raised his head and folded his leg and sat on it, and spread the toes of his feet when he prostrated. Then he prostrated. Then he said takbir and sat on his left leg until every bone returned to its position. Then he stood up and did the same in the other rak'ah. Then when he stood up from the two rak'ahs, he raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, just as he did at the beginning of the prayer. Then he prayed the rest of his prayer in this way, until when he was in the prostration in which there is the taslim, he brought out his legs and sat on his left side, mutawarrikan.' They said, 'You have spoken the truth. This is how the Prophet ﷺ used to pray.'
