✧ I was sitting with Umar b. al-Khattab when some people from the people of Kufah came to him complaining about Sa'd, to the point that they said to him, 'He does not pray well.' He said, 'My experience with him is that he prays well.' So he called him and informed him. Sa'd said, 'As for the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I prayed with them, I was deliberate in the first two and quick in the last two.' Umar said, 'That is what was expected of you, Abu Ishaq.' Then he sent someone with him to ask about him in Kufah. He went around with him to the mosques of Kufah and nothing but good was said about him, until he came to the mosque of Banu Abs. There was a man called Abu Sa'dah. He said, 'O Allah, he did not go out on expeditions, did not divide equally, and did not judge justly.' Sa'd became angry and said, 'O Allah, if he is lying, then prolong his life, intensify his poverty, and expose him to trials.' Ibn Umayr claimed that he saw him with his eyebrows fallen over his eyes, impoverished and afflicted, and he would not find anything to ask about. 'How are you, Abu Sa'dah?' He would say, 'An old man, afflicted; the supplication of Sa'd has been answered against me.'
