✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out when the sun had declined, and he led them in the noon prayer. When he had said the salutation, he stood on the pulpit and mentioned the Hour and mentioned that before it there would be tremendous matters. Then he said, “Whoever wishes to ask me about anything, let him ask me about it. By Allah, you will not ask me about anything except that I will inform you of it as long as I remain in this place.” Anas b. Mālik said, “The people wept profusely when they heard that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeatedly said, ‘Ask me, ask me.’ ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥudhāfah stood up and said, ‘Who is my father, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘Your father is Ḥudhāfah.’ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept saying, ‘Ask me,’ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb knelt on his knees and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we are content with Allah as Lord, Islam as religion, and Muḥammad ﷺ as Messenger.’ He said, ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell silent when ʿUmar said that.’ Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘By the One in whose hand is my soul, Paradise and the Fire were shown to me just now in the side of this wall, and I have never seen good and evil as I have today.’”
