The Great Expedition of Badr
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ: جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ شِعَارَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ: يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ. وَشِعَارَ الْخَزْرَجِ: يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ. وَشِعَارَ الْأَوْسِ: يَا بَنِي عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ. وَسَمَّى خَيْلَهُ: خَيْلَ اللَّهِ. وَقَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَكَانَ شِعَارُ الصَّحَابَةِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ: أَحَدٌ أَحَدٌ . وَرَوَى الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: كَانَ شِعَارُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: «يَا مَنْصُورُ أَمِتْ»
Translation
✧ From ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made the war cry of the Muhājirūn on the day of Badr: “O Banū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.” And the war cry of the Khazraj: “O Banū ʿAbd Allāh.” And the war cry of the Aws: “O Banū ʿUbayd Allāh.” And he named his cavalry: “The Cavalry of Allah.” Ibn Hishām said: The war cry of the Companions on the day of Badr was: “Aḥad, Aḥad.” Al-Ḥārith b. Abī Usāmah narrated from Zayd b. ʿAlī, who said: The war cry of the Prophet ﷺ was: “O Victorious One, grant death.”
