Some matters that occurred between the Messenger ﷺ and the Jews, Christians, and hypocrites in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah
Translation
✧ Ibn Isḥāq said: When ʿAbd Allāh b. Salām, Thaʿlabah b. Saʿyah, Usayd b. Saʿyah, Asad b. ʿUbayd, and those Jews who accepted Islam with them became Muslims—believing, affirming the truth, desiring Islam, and becoming firm in it—the Jewish rabbis, the people of disbelief among them, said: “None have believed in Muḥammad or followed him except the worst of us. Had they been among the best of us, they would not have abandoned the religion of their forefathers and gone to something else.” So God, Exalted is He, sent down concerning their saying: “They are not all alike: among the People of the Scripture is an upright community who recite God’s verses throughout the hours of the night while they prostrate. They believe in God and the Last Day, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and hasten to good deeds. Those are among the righteous.”
