Translation
✧ [His writing ﷺ to the Jews of Khaybar] Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to the Jews of Khaybar, according to what a mawlā of the family of Zayd b. Thābit narrated to me, from ʿIkrimah or from Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. From Muḥammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the companion of Mūsā and his brother, and the confirmer of what Mūsā brought. Indeed, Allah has said to you, O company of the people of the Torah, and you will find that in your Book: "Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are harsh against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel is like a seed that sends forth its shoot, then strengthens it, so it becomes thick and stands straight upon its stem, delighting the sowers—so that He may enrage the disbelievers by them. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward." And I adjure you by Allah, and I adjure you by what was sent down upon you, and I adjure you by the One who fed those before you from your tribes with manna and quails, and I adjure you by the One who dried up the sea for your fathers until He delivered them from Pharaoh and his work, unless you tell me: Do you find in what Allah has sent down upon you that you should believe in Muḥammad? If you do not find that in your Book, then there is no compulsion upon you. The right course has become clear from error—so I call you to Allah and to His Prophet.
