The story of Noah (peace be upon him)
ذكَرَ اللَّهُ قصة نوح عليه السلام وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ، وَمَا أَنْزَلَ بِمَنْ كَفَرَ بِهِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ بِالطُّوفَانِ، وَكَيْفَ أَنْجَاهُ وَأَصْحَابَ السَّفِينَةِ فِي غَيْرِ مَا مَوْضِعٍ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ الْعَزِيزِ فَفِي الْأَعْرَافِ، وَيُونُسَ، وَهُودٍ، وَالْأَنْبِيَاءِ، وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ، وَالشُّعَرَاءِ، وَالْعَنْكَبُوتِ، وَالصَّافَّاتِ، وَاقْتَرَبَتْ. وَأَنْزَلَ فِيهِ سُورَةً كَامِلَةً قصة نوح في سورة الأعراف فَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ الْأَعْرَافِ: لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ قَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي ضَلَالَةٌ وَلَكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي وَأَنْصَحُ لَكُمْ وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ أَنْ جَاءَكُمْ ذِكْرٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ لِيُنْذِرَكُمْ وَلِتَتَّقُوا وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا عَمِينَ [ الْأَعْرَافِ: 59 - 64 ]. قصة نوح في سورة يونس وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ يُونُسَ: وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِنْ كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَقَامِي وَتَذْكِيرِي بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَعَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ فَأَجْمِعُوا أَمْرَكُمْ وَشُرَكَاءَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنْ أَمْرُكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ غُمَّةً ثُمَّ اقْضُوا إِلَيَّ وَلَا تُنْظِرُونِ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَمَا سَأَلْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ خَلَائِفَ وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ [ يُونُسَ: 71 73 ]. قصة نوح في سورة هود وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ هُودٍ: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا نَرَاكَ إِلَّا بَشَرًا مِثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرَاكَ اتَّبَعَكَ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ هُمْ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِيَ الرَّأْيِ وَمَا نَرَى لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ فَضْلٍ بَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كَاذِبِينَ قَالَ يَاقَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّي وَآتَانِي رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَعُمِّيَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا وَأَنْتُمْ لَهَا كَارِهُونَ وَيَا قَوْمِ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مَالًا إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّهُمْ مُلَاقُو رَبِّهِمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ وَيَا قَوْمِ مَنْ يَنْصُرُنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنْ طَرَدْتُهُمْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ وَلَا أَقُولُ إِنِّي مَلَكٌ وَلَا أَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ تَزْدَرِي أَعْيُنُكُمْ لَنْ يُؤْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنِّي إِذًا لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ قَالُوا يَانُوحُ قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ إِنْ شَاءَ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِينَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُكُمْ نُصْحِي إِنْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَنْصَحَ لَكُمْ إِنْ كَانَ اللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُغْوِيَكُمْ هُوَ رَبُّكُمْ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَعَلَيَّ إِجْرَامِي وَأَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُجْرِمُونَ وَأُوحِيَ إِلَى نُوحٍ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يُؤْمِنَ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ إِلَّا مَنْ قَدْ آمَنَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ وَاصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا وَلَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا إِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ وَيَصْنَعُ الْفُلْكَ وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ مَلَأٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُ قَالَ إِنْ تَسْخَرُوا مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسْخَرُ مِنْكُمْ كَمَا تَسْخَرُونَ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌ مُقِيمٌ حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ قُلْنَا احْمِلْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ وَمَنْ آمَنَ وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ وَقَالَ ارْكَبُوا فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ كَالْجِبَالِ وَنَادَى نُوحٌ ابْنَهُ وَكَانَ فِي مَعْزِلٍ يَابُنَيَّ ارْكَبْ مَعَنَا وَلَا تَكُنْ مَعَ الْكَافِرِينَ قَالَ سَآوِي إِلَى جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ قَالَ لَا عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا الْمَوْجُ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِينَ وَقِيلَ يَاأَرْضُ ابْلَعِي مَاءَكِ وَيَا سَمَاءُ أَقْلِعِي وَغِيضَ الْمَاءُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَاسْتَوَتْ عَلَى الْجُودِيِّ وَقِيلَ بُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ وَنَادَى نُوحٌ رَبَّهُ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنْتَ أَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِينَ قَالَ يَانُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَإِلَّا تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُنْ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ قِيلَ يَانُوحُ اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ مِنَّا وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أُمَمٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَكَ وَأُمَمٌ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمْ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُمْ مِنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ تِلْكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهَا إِلَيْكَ مَا كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُهَا أَنْتَ وَلَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ هَذَا فَاصْبِرْ إِنَّ الْعَاقِبَةَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ [ هُودٍ: 25 - 49 ]. قصة نوح في سورة الأنبياء وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ: وَنُوحًا إِذْ نَادَى مِنْ قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ وَنَصَرْنَاهُ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ [ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ: 76، 77 ]. قصة نوح في سورة المؤمنون وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَأَنْزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الْأَوَّلِينَ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا بِهِ حَتَّى حِينٍ قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ فَاسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا إِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ [ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ: 23 - 30 ]. قصة نوح في سورة الشعراء وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الشُّعَرَاءِ: كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ قَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ الْأَرْذَلُونَ قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّي لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنْ أَنَا إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ قَالُوا لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ يَا نُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمَرْجُومِينَ قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي كَذَّبُونِ فَافْتَحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا ونَجِّنِي وَمَنْ مَعِيَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ الْبَاقِينَ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ [ الشُّعَرَاءِ: 105 - 122 ]. قصة نوح في سورة العنكبوت وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الْعَنْكَبُوتِ: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ الطُّوفَانُ وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَأَصْحَابَ السَّفِينَةِ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا آيَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ [ الْعَنْكَبُوتِ: 14 - 15 ]. قصة نوح في سورة الصافات وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الصَّافَّاتِ: وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ سَلَامٌ عَلَى نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ [ الصَّافَّاتِ: 75 - 82 ]. قصة نوح في سورة القمر وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ اقْتَرَبَتْ: كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَى أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍ تَجْرِي بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَا آيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرٍ وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [ الْقَمَرِ: 9 - 17 ]. قصة نوح في سورة نوح وَقَالَ تَعَالَى بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ: إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَالًا مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا [ نُوحٍ: 1 - 28 ]. قصة نوح في مواضع متفرقة من القرآن وَقَدْ جَرَى ذِكْرُهُ أَيْضًا فِي مَوَاضِعَ مُتَفَرِّقَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فِيهَا مَدْحُهُ وَذَمُّ مَنْ خَالَفَهُ فَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ النِّسَاءِ: إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَى وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ وَهَارُونَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَآتَيْنَا دَاوُدَ زَبُورًا وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنَاهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَمْ نَقْصُصْهُمْ عَلَيْكَ وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًا رُسُلًا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنْذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا [ النِّسَاءِ: 163 - 165 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ: وَتِلْكَ حُجَّتُنَا آتَيْنَاهَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَنْ نَشَاءُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَى وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَإِلْيَاسَ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطًا وَكُلًّا فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ وَمِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ وَإِخْوَانِهِمْ وَاجْتَبَيْنَاهُمْ وَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ [ الْأَنْعَامِ: 83 - 87 ]. الْآيَاتِ. وَتَقَدَّمَتْ قِصَّتُهُ فِي الْأَعْرَافِ. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ بَرَاءَةٌ: أَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَأَصْحَابِ مَدْيَنَ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتِ أَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَكِنْ كَانُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ [ التَّوْبَةِ: 70 ]. وَتَقَدَّمَتْ قِصَّتُهُ فِي يُونُسَ، وَهُودٍ. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ: أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَبَأُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ لَا يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلَّا اللَّهُ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرَدُّوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِي أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَقَالُوا إِنَّا كَفَرْنَا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُمْ بِهِ وَإِنَّا لَفِي شَكٍّ مِمَّا تَدْعُونَنَا إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍ [ إِبْرَاهِيمَ: 9 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ سُبْحَانَ: ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا [ الْإِسْرَاءِ: 3 ]. وَقَالَ فِيهَا أَيْضًا: وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ الْقُرُونِ مِنْ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ وَكَفَى بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِ خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا [ الْإِسْرَاءِ: 17 ]. وَتَقَدَّمَتْ قِصَّتُهُ فِي الْأَنْبِيَاءِ، وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ، وَالشُّعَرَاءِ، وَالْعَنْكَبُوتِ. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ الْأَحْزَابِ: وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ مِيثَاقَهُمْ وَمِنْكَ وَمِنْ نُوحٍ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى وَعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُمْ مِيثَاقًا غَلِيظًا [ الْأَحْزَابِ: 7 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ ص: كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ أُولَئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ إِنْ كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ [ ص: 12 - 14 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ غَافِرٍ: كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَالْأَحْزَابُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ وَهَمَّتْ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍ بِرَسُولِهِمْ لِيَأْخُذُوهُ وَجَادَلُوا بِالْبَاطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا بِهِ الْحَقَّ فَأَخَذْتُهُمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ وَكَذَلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ [ غَافِرٍ: 5، 6 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ الشُّورَى: شَرَعَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الدِّينِ مَا وَصَّى بِهِ نُوحًا وَالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى وَعِيسَى أَنْ أَقِيمُوا الدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا فِيهِ كَبُرَ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ اللَّهُ يَجْتَبِي إِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ مَنْ يُنِيبُ [ الشُّورَى: 13 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ ق: كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَانُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ [ ق: 12 - 14 ]. وَقَالَ فِي الذَّارِيَاتِ: وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ [ الذَّارِيَاتِ: 46 ]. وَقَالَ فِي النَّجْمِ: وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَى [ النَّجْمِ: 52 ]. وَتَقَدَّمَتْ قِصَّتُهُ فِي سُورَةِ اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الْحَدِيدِ: وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ فَمِنْهُمْ مُهْتَدٍ وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ [ الْحَدِيدِ: 26 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ التَّحْرِيمِ: ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا امْرَأَةَ نُوحٍ وَامْرَأَةَ لُوطٍ كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَالِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا وَقِيلَ ادْخُلَا النَّارَ مَعَ الدَّاخِلِينَ [ التَّحْرِيمِ: 10 ].
Translation
✧ Allah mentioned the story of Nūḥ ﷺ and what happened with his people, and the punishment of the flood that He sent down upon those who disbelieved in him, and how He saved him and the people of the ship in more than one place in His Mighty Book: in al-Aʿrāf, Yūnus, Hūd, al-Anbiyāʾ, al-Muʾminūn, al-Shuʿarāʾ, al-ʿAnkabūt, al-Ṣāffāt, and Iqtarabat. And He sent down a complete sūrah about him. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Aʿrāf. He said in Sūrat al-Aʿrāf: "Indeed, We sent Nūḥ to his people, and he said, 'O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.' The eminent ones among his people said, 'Indeed, we see you in clear error.' He said, 'O my people, there is no error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds. I convey to you the messages of my Lord and I advise you, and I know from Allah that which you do not know. Do you wonder that a reminder has come to you from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allah, and perhaps you will receive mercy?' But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people." [al-Aʿrāf: 59–64]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat Yūnus. And He said in Sūrat Yūnus: "And recite to them the news of Nūḥ, when he said to his people, 'O my people, if my stay and my reminding you of the signs of Allah have become burdensome upon you, then upon Allah I have relied. So gather your plan and your partners, then let not your plan be obscure to you, then carry it out against me and do not give me respite. But if you turn away, I have not asked you for any reward. My reward is only upon Allah, and I have been commanded to be among the Muslims.' But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship and made them successors, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Then see how was the end of those who were warned." [Yūnus: 71–73]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat Hūd. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat Hūd: "And indeed, We sent Nūḥ to his people: 'Indeed, I am to you a clear warner, that you worship none but Allah. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a painful Day.' Then the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people said, 'We see you not but a man like ourselves, and we do not see that any have followed you except those who are the lowest among us, rash in opinion, and we do not see in you any merit over us; rather, we think you are liars.' He said, 'O my people, do you see if I am upon clear proof from my Lord, and He has granted me mercy from Himself, but it has been obscured from you—should we force it upon you while you are averse to it? And O my people, I do not ask you for any wealth for it. My reward is only upon Allah, and I am not one to drive away those who have believed. Indeed, they will meet their Lord, but I see you as a people who are ignorant. And O my people, who would help me against Allah if I drove them away? Will you not then remember? And I do not say to you that I have the treasures of Allah, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I say that I am an angel, nor do I say of those whom your eyes despise that Allah will not give them good. Allah knows best what is in their souls. Indeed, I would then be among the wrongdoers.' They said, 'O Nūḥ, you have disputed with us and prolonged your dispute with us, so bring us what you promise us, if you are among the truthful.' He said, 'Allah alone will bring it to you if He wills, and you cannot frustrate Him. And my advice would not benefit you if I intended to advise you, should Allah intend to lead you astray. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned.' Or do they say, 'He has fabricated it'? Say, 'If I have fabricated it, then upon me is my crime, and I am innocent of what you commit.' And it was revealed to Nūḥ that none of your people will believe except those who have already believed, so do not grieve over what they have been doing. And build the ship under Our eyes and Our revelation, and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned. And he began constructing the ship, and whenever the eminent ones of his people passed by him, they mocked him. He said, 'If you mock us, then we will mock you as you mock. Then you will know upon whom will come a punishment that disgraces him, and upon whom will descend an abiding punishment.' Until, when Our command came and the oven overflowed, We said, 'Load therein of every kind two mates, and your family, except those against whom the decree has preceded, and those who have believed.' But none had believed with him except a few. And he said, 'Embark therein; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.' And it sailed with them amid waves like mountains, and Nūḥ called out to his son, who was apart: 'O my son, embark with us and do not be with the disbelievers.' He said, 'I will take refuge on a mountain that will protect me from the water.' He said, 'There is no protector today from the command of Allah except for those upon whom He has mercy.' And the waves came between them, so he was among the drowned. And it was said, 'O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold,' and the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and it rested on al-Jūdī, and it was said, 'Away with the wrongdoing people.' And Nūḥ called to his Lord and said, 'My Lord, indeed my son is of my family, and indeed Your promise is true, and You are the most just of judges.' He said, 'O Nūḥ, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, it is an unrighteous deed, so do not ask Me for that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, I advise you lest you be among the ignorant.' He said, 'My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge, and unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers.' It was said, 'O Nūḥ, disembark with peace from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations among those with you. And other nations We will grant enjoyment, then a painful punishment from Us will touch them.' That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you. You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the end is for the righteous." [Hūd: 25–49]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Anbiyāʾ. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Anbiyāʾ: "And Nūḥ, when he called before, and We answered him and saved him and his family from the great distress. And We helped him against the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were an evil people, so We drowned them all." [al-Anbiyāʾ: 76, 77]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Muʾminūn. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat Qad Aflaḥa al-Muʾminūn: "And indeed, We sent Nūḥ to his people, and he said, 'O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not then fear Him?' Then the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people said, 'This is nothing but a man like yourselves who wants to gain superiority over you. And had Allah willed, He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers of old. He is nothing but a man possessed, so wait concerning him for a time.' He said, 'My Lord, help me because they have denied me.' So We revealed to him: 'Build the ship under Our eyes and Our revelation. Then when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it of every kind two mates, and your family, except those against whom the decree has preceded among them. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned. And when you have boarded, you and those with you, on the ship, then say, "Praise be to Allah who has saved us from the wrongdoing people." And say, "My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, for You are the best of those who bring to land." Indeed, in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing.'" [al-Muʾminūn: 23–30]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Shuʿarāʾ. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Shuʿarāʾ: "The people of Nūḥ denied the messengers, when their brother Nūḥ said to them, 'Will you not fear Allah? Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. So fear Allah and obey me. And I do not ask you for any reward for it. My reward is only upon the Lord of the worlds. So fear Allah and obey me.' They said, 'Should we believe you while the lowest follow you?' He said, 'And what knowledge do I have of what they used to do? Their account is only upon my Lord, if you could perceive. And I am not one to drive away the believers. I am only a clear warner.' They said, 'If you do not cease, O Nūḥ, you will surely be among those who are stoned.' He said, 'My Lord, indeed my people have denied me, so judge between me and them with a decisive judgment, and save me and whoever is with me of the believers.' So We saved him and those with him in the loaded ship. Then after that We drowned the rest. Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Mighty, the Merciful." [al-Shuʿarāʾ: 105–122]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-ʿAnkabūt. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-ʿAnkabūt: "And indeed, We sent Nūḥ to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years less fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers. So We saved him and the companions of the ship, and We made it a sign for the worlds." [al-ʿAnkabūt: 14–15]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Ṣāffāt. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Ṣāffāt: "And indeed, Nūḥ called to Us, and how excellent are the responders. And We saved him and his family from the great distress. And We made his descendants those who remained. And We left for him among later generations: 'Peace upon Nūḥ among the worlds.' Indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good. Indeed, he was of Our believing servants. Then We drowned the others." [al-Ṣāffāt: 75–82]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat al-Qamar. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat Iqtarabat: "The people of Nūḥ denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, 'A madman,' and he was repulsed. So he called upon his Lord, 'Indeed, I am overcome, so help me.' So We opened the gates of the heaven with pouring water, and We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, and the waters met for a matter already decreed. And We carried him on a vessel of planks and nails, sailing under Our eyes, as a reward for the one who had been denied. And indeed, We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? Then how were My punishment and My warnings? And indeed, We have made the Qurʾān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?" [al-Qamar: 9–17]. The story of Nūḥ in Sūrat Nūḥ. And He, the Exalted, said—In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful: "Indeed, We sent Nūḥ to his people: 'Warn your people before a painful punishment comes to them.' He said, 'O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner: worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me. He will forgive you of your sins and delay you to a specified term. Indeed, the term of Allah, when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you only knew.' He said, 'My Lord, indeed I called my people night and day, but my calling only increased them in flight. And indeed, whenever I called them that You might forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, wrapped themselves in their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with great arrogance. Then I called them openly. Then I announced to them and confided to them secretly. I said, "Ask forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send the sky upon you in abundance and supply you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens and make for you rivers. What is with you that you do not attribute to Allah due grandeur, when He has created you in stages? Do you not see how Allah created seven heavens in layers, and made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. Then He will return you into it and bring you forth with a bringing forth. And Allah has made for you the earth a spread so that you may travel therein along wide paths."' Nūḥ said, 'My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed one whose wealth and children only increased him in loss. And they plotted a great plot. And they said, "Do not leave your gods, and do not leave Wadd, nor Suwāʿ, nor Yaghūth, nor Yaʿūq, nor Nasr." And they have led many astray, so increase the wrongdoers in nothing but error.' Because of their sins they were drowned, then made to enter a Fire, and they found no helpers for themselves besides Allah. And Nūḥ said, 'My Lord, do not leave upon the earth any of the disbelievers dwelling. Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and will beget none but wicked, ungrateful ones. My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer, and the believing men and the believing women, and do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but destruction.'" [Nūḥ: 1–28]. The story of Nūḥ in various places in the Qurʾān. His mention has also occurred in various places in the Qurʾān, containing praise of him and censure of those who opposed him. He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Nisāʾ: "Indeed, We have revealed to you as We revealed to Nūḥ and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Ibrāhīm, Ismāʿīl, Isḥāq, Yaʿqūb, the tribes, ʿĪsā, Ayyūb, Yūnus, Hārūn, and Sulaymān, and We gave Dāwūd the Zabūr. And messengers We have related to you before, and messengers We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Mūsā directly. Messengers as bearers of good tidings and warners, so that people would have no argument against Allah after the messengers. And Allah is Mighty and Wise." [al-Nisāʾ: 163–165]. And He said in Sūrat al-Anʿām: "And that is Our argument which We gave to Ibrāhīm against his people. We raise in degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing. And We gave him Isḥāq and Yaʿqūb; each We guided. And Nūḥ We guided before, and of his descendants Dāwūd, Sulaymān, Ayyūb, Yūsuf, Mūsā, and Hārūn. And thus do We reward the doers of good. And Zakariyyā, Yaḥyā, ʿĪsā, and Ilyās—each of the righteous. And Ismāʿīl, al-Yasaʿ, Yūnus, and Lūṭ—and each We favored over the worlds. And of their fathers, descendants, and brothers—We chose them and guided them to a straight path." [al-Anʿām: 83–87], the verses. And his story appeared previously in al-Aʿrāf. And He said in Sūrat Barāʾah: "Has there not come to them the news of those before them—the people of Nūḥ, ʿĀd, Thamūd, the people of Ibrāhīm, the companions of Madyan, and the overturned cities? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, and Allah would not have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves." [al-Tawbah: 70]. And his story appeared previously in Yūnus and Hūd. And He said in Sūrat Ibrāhīm: "Has there not come to you the news of those before you—the people of Nūḥ, ʿĀd, Thamūd, and those after them? None knows them except Allah. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands into their mouths and said, 'Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are in disquieting doubt about that to which you call us.'" [Ibrāhīm: 9]. And He said in Sūrat Subḥān: "O descendants of those We carried with Nūḥ. Indeed, he was a grateful servant." [al-Isrāʾ: 3]. And He said therein also: "And how many generations We destroyed after Nūḥ. And sufficient is your Lord, concerning the sins of His servants, as All-Aware and All-Seeing." [al-Isrāʾ: 17]. And his story appeared previously in al-Anbiyāʾ, al-Muʾminūn, al-Shuʿarāʾ, and al-ʿAnkabūt. And He said in Sūrat al-Aḥzāb: "And when We took from the prophets their covenant, and from you, and from Nūḥ, Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, and ʿĪsā son of Maryam, and We took from them a solemn covenant." [al-Aḥzāb: 7]. And He said in Sūrat Ṣād: "The people of Nūḥ denied before them, and ʿĀd, and Firʿawn, the possessor of stakes, and Thamūd, and the people of Lūṭ, and the companions of the thicket. Those are the factions. Not one of them but denied the messengers, so My punishment was justified." [Ṣād: 12–14]. And He said in Sūrat Ghāfir: "The people of Nūḥ denied before them, and the factions after them. And every nation intended against their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by falsehood to refute the truth thereby, so I seized them. Then how was My punishment? And thus has the word of your Lord come into effect upon those who disbelieved, that they are the companions of the Fire." [Ghāfir: 5, 6]. And He said in Sūrat al-Shūrā: "He has ordained for you of the religion that which He enjoined upon Nūḥ, and that which We revealed to you, and that which We enjoined upon Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, and ʿĪsā: establish the religion and do not be divided therein. Difficult for the polytheists is that to which you call them. Allah chooses to Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back." [al-Shūrā: 13]. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat Qāf: "The people of Nūḥ denied before them, and the companions of al-Rass, and Thamūd, and ʿĀd, and Firʿawn, and the brothers of Lūṭ, and the companions of the thicket, and the people of Tubbaʿ. Each denied the messengers, so My threat was justified." [Qāf: 12–14]. And He said in al-Dhāriyāt: "And the people of Nūḥ before; indeed, they were a defiantly disobedient people." [al-Dhāriyāt: 46]. And He said in al-Najm: "And the people of Nūḥ before; indeed, they were more unjust and more rebellious." [al-Najm: 52]. And his story appeared previously in Sūrat Iqtarabat al-Sāʿah. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Ḥadīd: "And indeed, We sent Nūḥ and Ibrāhīm, and We placed in their descendants prophethood and the Book. Among them is one who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient." [al-Ḥadīd: 26]. And He, the Exalted, said in Sūrat al-Taḥrīm: "Allah presents an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Nūḥ and the wife of Lūṭ. They were under two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed them, so they did not avail them at all against Allah, and it was said, 'Enter the Fire with those who enter.'" [al-Taḥrīm: 10].
