The second pledge of al-Aqabah and what occurred therein

Translation

✧ THE CONDITIONS OF THE PLEDGE IN THE LAST AL-ʿAQABAH Ibn Isḥāq said: The pledge of war, when God permitted His Messenger ﷺ to fight, had conditions other than his condition upon them in the first al-ʿAqabah. The first was upon the pledge of women, because God Most High had not permitted His Messenger ﷺ to wage war. When God permitted him in it, and the Messenger of God ﷺ pledged them in the last al-ʿAqabah upon war against the red and the black, he took for himself and stipulated upon the people for his Lord, and made for them, upon fulfillment of that, Paradise. Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿUbādah b. al-Walīd b. ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit narrated to me, from his father al-Walīd, from his grandfather ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit — and he was one of the twelve chiefs — he said: We pledged the Messenger of God ﷺ the pledge of war — and ʿUbādah was among the twelve who pledged him in the first al-ʿAqabah upon the pledge of women — upon hearing and obedience, in our hardship and ease, in our energy and our reluctance, and preferment over us, and that we not dispute the matter with its people, and that we speak the truth wherever we are, not fearing in God the reproach of any reproacher.
