The second pledge of al-Aqabah and what occurred therein

Translation

✧ The Matter of the Second al-ʿAqabah [Muṣʿab b. ʿUmayr and the Second al-ʿAqabah] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then Muṣʿab b. ʿUmayr returned to Makkah, and those of the Anṣār who were Muslims set out for the pilgrimage season with the pilgrim parties of their people, who were polytheists, until they came to Makkah. They appointed with the Messenger of God ﷺ al-ʿAqabah, in the middle of the days of al-tashrīq, when God willed for them what He willed of His honor, support for His Prophet, strengthening of Islam and its people, and humiliation of polytheism and its people. Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh ؓ said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ remained for ten years following the people in their encampments at Mijannah, ʿUkāẓ, and in the pilgrimage seasons at Minā, saying: 'Who will shelter me, and who will help me, so that I may convey the messages of my Lord, and for him is Paradise?' But he never found anyone to shelter him or help him, until a man would travel from Muḍar or from Yemen, and his people or his close relatives would come to him and say: 'Beware of the youth of Quraysh, lest he tempt you.' He would walk among their saddlebags while they pointed at him with their fingers, until God sent us to him from Yathrib. A man from us would come to him, believe in him, and he would teach him the Qurʾān, and he would return to his family, and they would become Muslims through his Islam, until there remained no house among the houses of Yathrib but that it had a group of Muslims openly professing Islam. Then God, exalted is He, sent us, and we conferred and gathered, and we said: 'How long shall we leave the Messenger of God ﷺ wandering in the mountains of Makkah and afraid?' So seventy men of us traveled to him until they came to him in the pilgrimage season. We appointed with him the ravine of al-ʿAqabah, and we gathered there one by one and two by two until we all came together before him. We said: 'O Messenger of God, upon what shall we pledge allegiance to you?' He said: 'You pledge allegiance to me upon hearing and obedience in activity and in laziness, and upon spending in hardship and in ease, and upon enjoining good and forbidding evil, and upon speaking for the sake of God, not caring for the blame of any blamer, and upon helping me when I come to you in Yathrib, protecting me from what you protect yourselves, your wives, and your children; and for you is Paradise.'"
