The Night Journey and the Ascension
وَبَيْنَا هُوَ يَسِيرُ، إِذَا بِامْرَأَةٍ حَاسِرَةٍ عَنْ ذِرَاعِهَا وَعَلَيْهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زِينَةٍ خَلَقَهَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى. فَقَالَتْ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَنْظِرْنِي أَسْأَلْكَ، فَلَمْ يَلْتَفِتْ إِلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذِهِ يَا جِبْرِيلُ ؟ قَالَ: تِلْكَ الدُّنْيَا، أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ أَجَبْتَهَا لَاخْتَارَتْ أُمَّتُكَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ.
Translation
✧ While he was traveling, suddenly there was a woman with her forearm uncovered, adorned with every ornament that God Most High has created. She said: “O Muhammad, wait for me so that I may ask you,” but he did not turn to her. He said: “What is this, O Gabriel?” He said: “That is the world. Indeed, had you answered her, your community would have preferred the world over the Hereafter.”
