The Night Journey and the Ascension
وَأَتَى عَلَى وَادٍ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتًا مُنْكَرًا وَوَجَدَ رِيحًا مُنْتِنَةً، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا يَا جِبْرِيلُ ؟ قَالَ: هَذَا صَوْتُ جَهَنَّمَ تَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ ايتِني بِمَا وَعَدْتَنِي، فَقَدْ كَثُرَتْ سَلَاسِلِي وَأَغْلَالِي وَسَعِيرِي وَحَمِيمِي وَضَرِيعِي وَغَسَّاقِي وَعَذَابِي، وَقَدْ بَعُدَ قَعْرِي وَاشْتَدَّ حَرِّي، فَأْتِنِي بِمَا وَعَدْتَنِي. فَقَالَ: لَكِ كُلُّ مُشْرِكٍ وَمُشْرِكَةٍ، وَكَافِرٍ وَكَافِرَةٍ، وَخَبِيثٍ وَخَبِيثَةٍ، وَكُلُّ جَبَّارٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ: قَالَتْ: قَدْ رَضِيتُ.
Translation
✧ He came to a valley and heard a dreadful sound and found a stinking smell. He said: “What is this, O Jibrīl?” He said: “This is the sound of Jahannam saying: ‘O Lord, bring me what You promised me, for my chains, my shackles, my blaze, my boiling water, my ḍarīʿ, my ghassāq, and my punishment have multiplied, and my depth has become far and my heat has intensified, so bring me what You promised me.’ He said: To you belong every male and female polytheist, every male and female disbeliever, every male and female wicked one, and every tyrant who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning. It said: ‘I am content.’”
