The Night Journey and the Ascension
Translation
✧ He found a pleasant fragrance and said, “O Jibrīl, what is this fragrance?” He said, “This is the fragrance of the hairdresser of Pharaoh’s daughter and her children. While she was combing Pharaoh’s daughter, the comb fell, and she said, ‘In the name of Allāh; may Pharaoh perish.’ Pharaoh’s daughter said, ‘Do you have a lord other than my father?’ I said, ‘Yes, my Lord and your Lord is Allāh.’ The woman had two sons and a husband. He sent to them and sought to make the woman and her husband recant their religion. He said, ‘I will kill you both.’ They said, ‘It would be a kindness from you, if you kill us, to put us in one house’—and in one narration she said: ‘I have a request to make of you.’ He said, ‘And what is it?’ She said, ‘Gather my bones and the bones of my two children, and bury us all together.’ He said: ‘That is granted to you because of the right you have over us.’ He ordered a pit of brass to be heated, then ordered that she and her children be thrown into it. They were thrown in one by one until they came to the youngest suckling infant among them. He said, ‘O mother, plunge in and do not hold back, for you are upon the truth.’ He said: Four spoke while they were small: this one, the witness of Yūsuf, the companion of Jurayj, and ʿĪsā son of Maryam ﷺ.
